As discussed briefly on previous pages, links back to your website pages count as a vote for the landing page, but it is important to remember that not all backlinks have the same weight or value.

Firstly, Google & other Search Engines frown upon the practise since it is creating an artifical vote for your site, which is viewed as cheating.
If you are found to be soliciting links in this fashion on a site that comes under scrutiny, then you may well be penalised for it.
Secondly, the link quality is usually quite poor.
What benefit can, or should there be for obtaining a link from a brand new spammy advertising website, that links to some probably questionable websites as well as yours?
It doesn’t & shouldn’t count for anything, & you will find a similar result if you have for example a pet food store linking to your prestige automobile website – there is no relevance whatsoever, so why should you get points for it.
Link exchange programs & other artificial methods of obtaining links are another example of the SEO version of “getting rich quick,” the easier the proposition appears to be, the less effect you will find that it has.
The only way to really build good backlinks is to work at it by doing your homework, proposing reciprocal (or one way) links with quality websites, & most importantly to build them up over time.
This is most important, since Google, Yahoo, et al know the typical profile for aquiring backlinks, & it usually doesn’t happen in a flurry, with dozens of links appearing en masse. That is the sign of link exchange or directory submission activity!
